Is it normal to hook up?

my friend and i have known each other since we were in elementary school..and we are really good friends..so one day i went over to his house and we were just hanging out and we ended up kissing..but the thing is that we both decided this summer we were going to hook up and we both know why we kissed so that kiss didn't really mean anything..but at the same time us hooking up one of us is bound to get attached and that is going to be hard to deal with if it does happen..but at the same time i am not planning on losing it with this person..and i am a college freshman and him a senior in HS..but its like idk weird..so what should i do have fun or not hook up??..and he respects me he doesn't do things i don't want to or force me into anything..and also do you think its cheating when one of us talks to other pplz but ends up kissing others pplz and we are hooking up with someone else??
