Yeah, lots of people do it. A full bladder puts pressure on other things (in a good way). Also, holding back from something that is becoming slightly painful and then having huge relief is a good feeling too.
Virtually everything is normal, hun. The reason the world is more "wacko these days" is the internet, which allows us to speak freely because it's anonymous. Humanity has ALWAYS done "weird" stuff.
