Is it normal to hide facebook friends from facebook friends

So basically I hide who I am friends with on facebook with everyone including my own friends simply because I do not want people to think I have very few friends. The thing is I only add people that I am real friends with or are on talking terms with in real life or just on facebook (as around 2 or 3 of my friends are just online friends).
I only have about 40 facebook friends so I hide it. Would you say this is normal or should I be open about it?

    i think you should keep your personal life as personal as you want.

    why should you have to tell everyone your personal business.

    personally i think people snoop too much as it is on FB. why give them more?

    Kudos to you. I think a lot of judgments are made based on how many friends someone has on Facebook.

    Wow I'm the complete opposite I hid my friends because I didn't want people to think I had too many friends "120" and I have 130 pending because i dont want to ignore them. I hate adding people!
