Is it normal to hear noises that no one else hears?
Whenever I sit outside at night on the porch with my parents, I hear a clicking noise that sounds like beetles beating their wings to communicate with each other. It gets pretty loud sometimes. But the weird thing is, I'm the only one who can hear it. My parents can't hear it and neither can my younger brother. Sometimes I also hear it inside the house.
This first started on a night when I was sleep-deprived, so I initially chalked it up to that. But it's been going on every night no matter how much sleep I get. I have done a little google research and the closest thing to useful information I found was that it could be tinnitus, which would actually make sense seems how I listen to music at unhealthy levels and have had ringing in my ears off and on for years. But since I have mental health problems, I'm worried that this could be a sign of schizophrenia instead, which would also make sense since I see "shadow people" out of the corners of my eyes sometimes.
So is this normal? What does it mean?
