Is it normal to hear noises that no one else hears?

Whenever I sit outside at night on the porch with my parents, I hear a clicking noise that sounds like beetles beating their wings to communicate with each other. It gets pretty loud sometimes. But the weird thing is, I'm the only one who can hear it. My parents can't hear it and neither can my younger brother. Sometimes I also hear it inside the house.

This first started on a night when I was sleep-deprived, so I initially chalked it up to that. But it's been going on every night no matter how much sleep I get. I have done a little google research and the closest thing to useful information I found was that it could be tinnitus, which would actually make sense seems how I listen to music at unhealthy levels and have had ringing in my ears off and on for years. But since I have mental health problems, I'm worried that this could be a sign of schizophrenia instead, which would also make sense since I see "shadow people" out of the corners of my eyes sometimes.

So is this normal? What does it mean?

Please see a neurologist. I have the ringing in the ears, so I take two capsules of Nature's Way fenugreek every day and luckily it's under control. Fenugreek has a natural steroid in it,so that's probably why it works. I read on a blog that people who see shapes out of the corner of their eyes might have MS. You probably don't have schizophrenia. Take care.

It sounds to me, that you have ringing in your ears! You should go to the Doctors and see what he/she has say. Either that or, you have super sonic hearing!!!

Sounds like tinnitus. You should see a doctor, they will be able to confirm it.

Tinnitus can come in many forms, like buzzing, ringing, rustling and, like you mentioned, clicking.

If you do find you have tinnitus, it is incurable. You should stop listening too your music that loud, as you may be able to stop it before it's too late.

    Good luck!

I have tinnitus and there is no cure. Stop listening to loud music at once and stop damaging your hearing.

This constant whistling is driving me insane and it's hard for me to hear what people are saying coz they have to talk louder than this flippin' racket!!
