Is it normal to hear music or voices before falling asleep?

Before I fall asleep, I sometimes hear music or voices and the more asleep I get, the louder I can hear them. I not exactly asleep though. Also they're not voices I know. Usually it's music, but like last night I randomly heard "I'm a dancer" but it was a creepy random voice. Yeah.. is it normal ?

One time I heard my name. Then I heard, "your hogging all the fucking blankets."

I have the same thing happening to me. I hear what sounds like radio broadcasts before I fall asleep at night. I know it isn't songs in my head because most of the time they are songs I have never heard or in another language. They are so real I hear every word and I can't remember one song if I tried to so it is not a replay from my memory. I also hear talking and other radio stuff. I have heard people say dental metal can produce this but I don't have any fillings ! Personally I love it but would like to know what is really happening.

This is happened to me as well for the last year or so. I hear it when a fan or an air conditioner are on and its only in my house not when I go one trips. I am a middle aged mom , I have worked in the health care field for years and recently completed my BS degree. I don't want to be called crazy, or schizo, I don't believe that is the problem. A few months back I heard the most beautiful country song, and i really do not like country at all. Its scary, my house was built in the mid 1800's . My 18 year old told me today that whenever he went in my bedroom when he was little , he heard a song, it was a rock song though. I am afraid to tell anyone, I told my kids( youngest is almost 17) and they think its weird. Icant sleep at night even with Ambien. I go for days not sleeping because i am scared and the crash for 2 days straight. Its no0t just music, its like listening to 2 people on a radio talk sometimes, like an AM station would sound cant tell the gender. Please help

I do the same thing. The voices aren't loud enough to hear most of the time, which kind of ticks me off. The music is usually a piano. It's nice and all, but there isn't a piano in my house.

This is very common and known as hypnagogic sounds.

  • I voted not normal...even though I experience the exact same thing, even with the getting louder part, personally it freaks me out. xD

  • I've heard of this happening before, it's probably your brain entering the REM phase.
