In my bedroom when I bend down to charge my iPod I can hear the electricity in my plug if I listen carefully
I am British and we usually cannot hear our plugs we can also switch them off via the wall
Is this normal or is it dangerous?
I think it's probably ok as long as it doesn't sound like crackling / sparking. If you unscrew the socket you should be able to see if there's been any burning. If so, get an electrician.
Hearing a hum doesn't mean "danger" by itself. Personally, living in the US with 115 AC / 60 Hz electricity, I am somewhat use to hearing it, depending on what I'm using.
If it's always done this from the start, it may just be nothing more than the resonant frequency - as suggested by dappled.
I would not personally worry, unless it's something new. If it's something new to that equipment then something in side may have changed.
yeah, i was about to say, i don't think it's very good to hear the electricity in the outlet it could be over charged, or on the danger of short circuiting, our fuse box does what you describe sometimes and we have gotten black outs. So i would take care of that if i were you
When you plug something in, you're completing the last link in a circuit or a loop and electricity starts flowing. There is a harmonic resonance set up and it's quite possible to hear or feel this. I occasionally hear it in plugs but I nearly always hear it under pylons.
