Is it normal to hear a high sound when it's silent?

When i am in bed at night, i hear a high tone, almost like a whistle but much higher. I don't listen to loud music and i don't visit concerts. What is it and what can i do about it?

  • I hear it often. Almost like a quiet dog whistle. But the weird thing is that no one else seems to notice. But I'd still say it's normal. But I dont think we can do anything about it.

There's an x files episode about it and a few documentaries. It's been reported for hundreds and hundreds of years. So I don't think it's military tech...

Happens around NJ and NY the most. But also happens in whales and the Netherlands and a few other places in Eastern Europe

It's known as the east 'hum'. Thousands and thousands of oeople have reported hearing them over the years. No one really knows what they're from. People theorize shit from military tech under experimentation or a natural phenomena of the earths magnetic field. It's driven some people to commit suicide because it never stops

I have this too. It's horrible. I went to a doctor and had my ears checked but they said there was nothing wrong.
But i read something about it on the Internet. If you have a tv or any other electronic thing in your bedroom, put something like a sheet over it at night. It kinda works. The sound isn't completely gone but it's a lot less. xx

If it's completely silent with no ambient noise and you hear a high pitched noise, then yes.

It could be an electronic device plugged in somewhere, like a tv or stereo.

  • I hope it's normal because I get that too.

ooh shit, my bad. I forgot you said you don't listen to music haha.
It is still Tinnitus though, you can develop it without audio damage.
    :)

    yeah it is Tinnitus,
I'm guessing you are exposed to loud noises alot? (eg: listening to music through earphones alot with the volume quite loud?)
the 'whistling' sound is your ear's trying to "repair" themselves.
It is very common though, I wouldn't worry too much about it :)
    (Unless it get's worse, obviously)
