Is it normal to have your period twice in one month

I am 17 and i am in a stable relationship with my boyfriend of 4 years. During the month of December in 2012 i had my period twice and i have not had it again yet and i was wondering if this had happened to anyone else before and if this is a normal thing. I have not experienced anything like this before and neither have my family. I come from a big family and this has not happened to any other family members. Any answers would be appreciated.

Not entirely normal, no, but it happens.

If you had two full on periods (not just one regular period and a breakthrough spotting) then it's probably just a temporary hormonal imbalance and no big deal. This has happened to me before. I started birth control to eliminate this issue.

If you had the regular period and breakthrough spotting, it could be your birth control but that's normal too. It happens. It's like a hormonal hiccup. If it happens again this month or next and you're worried, you can always call a nurse at planned parenthood for free (<a href="http://plannedparenthood.org" rel="nofollow">plannedparenthood.org</a>) and discuss it with them. Maybe see an OB/GYN. Overall though, unless you have any pressing health conditions and you're in good health, I wouldn't be worried. See your doctors and OB regularly.

Also, I feel the need to mention that there is such a thing as implantation spotting, when you bleed due to implantation of a devloping fertilized egg. I'd recommend you get a pregnancy test just to be on the safe side. You can still get periods despite pregnancy.

I don't think its suppose to happen 2 times in a month. So like every two weeks? I think you should consult a doctor and maybe have your hormones checked out.

I do not see how you being with your boyfriend has anything to do with that. Unless you have been sexually active with him. In which case you might be pregnant.

Oh, just asking because that would happen to me if i did either of those things. Maybe you should go see your doctor just to be on the safe side.

Have you recently stopped taking your birth control or missed any pills?
