Is it normal to have younger internet friends?

I've been on the internet since I was like...12. Currently I'm 20 and I'm worried that it's weird I have younger internet friends? We aren't like BFFs or anything, but I have some 16-17 year old acquaintances. Before when I was 18-19 and more active on Tumblr I talked to people as young as 14 and was facebook friends with a 16 year old I met on Tumblr and talked to daily. Nothing inappropriate ever happened, but is it normal?

I'm afraid if I did have friends on the internet, they would ALL be younger than I.
I suppose if you keep the talk civil and the internet friends on the internet, it doesn't matter how old everyone is.

Normal. Back when I was between the ages of 20 to 23, I used to have online friends on Meez who ranged from ages 13 to 35.

Yeah, I remember when I was 19, I had a few 15 year old friends online and when I was 15, I had a few friends who were 30.

Yes on the internet its okay, in real life there is different circumstances.

Example if its at a day care with various ages of children:Yes
Example If its a dad trying to be friends with all the kids on the playground and have no kids: Maybe not
Example:Family members and family members of friends: Yes Yes Yes
(You are tommy and your friend is 10 and you are 10 and Tommy brings over his 5 year old brother)
Example:Are you living in an Apartment complex with various ages of children running around outside? Yes you may

Generally if you are on a site where there is no real age limit and various ages are allowed to "Mingle" well yes. You are allowed to have underage friends. Just because it would be read to neglect them if they are in the room anyways.

So it really has to do with circumstances but most of this can be solved with a little common sense.

Also given my naturally flamboyant and eccentric nature I tend to attract kids. I not going to be a jerk and say "Go away!" I am just kind to them. However I have a lot of younger cousins so generally I am very good with children. I probably would enjoy a babysitting job and have the same amount of sympathy for a child as I would a dog. While I tend to have a lot less for adults since most of the time they are complete asshole but such is life. I guess I regard them both as innocent and something to protect. Vs the rest of humanity which I wish would go rot in a pit of fire.

It seems like today's society makes people wonder about the legality of talking to any young people not related to oneself or in one's care. Imagine if it was taboo to talk to old people. Doesn't it seem ridiculous? I think anybody should be able to be anyone's friend without any guilt. I was friends with my grandmother and we were decades and decades apart in age.

If you had a 14 year old daughter. Would you find it appropriate for a 20 year old man to be "internet friends" with her?.

It depends on the level of friendship. Like if she played some MMO and occasionally spoke to the guy in a group setting, no biggie, but if they're video calling each other one on one every night I'd shut that down reaaaal quick.

Like I said, I'm not BFFs with any of my internet friends, there's just a couple of 16-17 year olds among the group I talk to on Tumblr or game sites :)

edit: Oh, and I'm a 20 year old girl in college, they ask me for homework help lol
