Is it normal to have world war three over cigarettes?

ok the other night i got into world war three with my parents over my step dads dumbass decision to continue to smoke after 40 years and honestly if he would just go outside and smoke i wouldnt care. if he wouldnt light up and blow it at me purposley i wouldnt care. i just want it away from me. they smell like sh*t and they give me asthma attacks. he sits in the garage all day and chainsmokes. sometimes he only even takes two drags cuz he cant keep smoking. and i dont want to have to smell smoke in my kitchen while im eating or cooking because the garge door connects to the kitchen. i asked him one benefit hed ever recieved from smoking his reply was its my choice. and so he forces my mother who doesnt smoke to sit out there with him in the second hand. my step dads short tempered (probably strung from nicotene)and he literally tried to get in my face and pick a fight over this. and its funny cuz he cant win mentally or physically with his dumb arguement. honestly i love my family even him and i just want whats best for us. or atleast try to make it more liveable.

Why should your step dad have to go outside, from his house, because you dont like him smoking?

It is hard to give you advice, since I don't know how old you are and if you are stuck living there, etc. I can tell you that you are right about the smoking. It is not only a smelly and annoying habit for you to put up with, but it is very dangerous to your health to be breathing in second hand smoke. Just the other day the mother of a friend of mine was diagnosed with lung cancer. She had never smoked in her life, but her husband, who died a few years ago of cancer smoked alot. So it is bad for those around smokers, as well.

Have you talked to your mother about her health and your health taking in this smoke? Could you print out some articles about it from the net and show her? Could you go to live with another relative? I am so sorry that you are going through this. But if your mother won't help you and you are stuck living there, there's not much you can do except to stay out of the way.....stay in rooms where he doesn't smoke....and stay out of the house as much as possible. Be brave. You are in the right on this one!

I'm 21 years young. my father peaced out years back and i dont really have any other living arrangements especially cuz i have my woman livin with me. we have a weird set up its actually my gfs moms house so thats how we ended up here. im just tired of ignorance and the lack there of to try. finally after this hes said hell try and be better. but all he did was put a fan in front of the door. and dont get me wrong thats an amazing break through. sometimes the sheer stupidity of mankind still amazes me no matter what. but yea i basically have to boycott the garage. i cant use tools for my car an if you check out my profile thats a huge part of my life. but yea i just need to remember to whatever i can to not be like this an anyway for my future family. i appreciate your input. just out of curiosity does your post name imply green as in think green for the earth or as in the good smelling sticky shit haha? its really wierd how i can take a couple puffs of weed (only in moderation cuz to much of anything is bad which is my motto)and it doesnt effect my asthma even at all but cigs equal death i cannot believe i used to enjoy that. talk about unintentionaly ignorant. im just trying to look at myself an change for the best.

    • yeh okay dickhead, just because you want to destroy your lungs and health we have to smell it? Get real. Second smoke kills, and third hand smoke (yeh look it up) probably kills as well.

This is actually a tougher one then it sounds. I'm a smoker and seriously go put of my way to not bother anyone with it. Hubby nd I smoke outside only, never in the car, etc. I guess the reason it brings up so many fights is the choice aspect. When u take all the health stuff out of the equation, it's all a choice. Ur step dad probably feels that it's his house, his rules.
At least he goes to the garage. It is absolutely impossible to force someone to want to quit. The more u push, the less likely it'll happen. If u really hate it, u just have to move out, nothin else to do.

just go somewhere else everytime he smokes, and let him know how much you hate it. your mother will probably want him to stop so she can get you home.

Okay, I quit smoking a good while back but I'm just as sick of you preachy non smokers now as I was before.

It's not your choice if someone smokes. It's not your choice if someone wants to smoke them selves to death, and it's a greatly over blown exaggerated point that it harms you. There are so many carcinogens you are exposed to every day and the only way to keep them out of your lungs is to stop breathing. Lung cancer can be caused by so many things people just like to have a nice group of people they can blame and smokers are good targets.

So yeah it's normal you%%u2019re just on the wrong side.

Ps. Since the ban here my favourite bar now smells of piss instead of smoke and I can%%u2019t stand it.

where should i start the fact that i feel sorry for you because you probably indeed are joyless? or the fact that you cigarette smokers get so whiny and pissy to justify it. i dare you no i defy you what one single thing health wise or life wise has a cigarette done for you? haha yea you came to my page to preach now im gonna just to spite you. two wrongs dont make a right but smoking cigarettes is always a wrong. why dont you go back to the paleazoic era where your thought process lies. and have fun dying at an early age while your kids are left to the dumb example you lead them by. dont you feel good knowing your funding a slave trade that keeps the rich rich and the poor poor. your so dumb i bet you never even been out of your piss ridden bar long enough to realize the effects of corporate cigarettes on the economy and law making. and i forgive your ignorance your parents were obviously great role models and created an upstanding gentleman. have fun in your piss ridden bar and stay off my posts until you have a valid point or arguement.

He even said he doesn't care if his stepdad smokes as long as he does it outside and away from his so speaking of being preachy, you can take your poorly aimed preaching elsewhere.

It's not his choice if his stepdad smokes but it should be his choice to not be exposed to it. Why should his health have to suffer because his stepdad has a stupid, deadly habit?

If you seriously don't think there is a direct link between cigarette smoke and lung cancer, you're an idiot. Just because there are other known carcinogens doesn't mean you shouldn't attempt to limit your exposure to things that are under your control, like secondhand smoke. The assertion that the danger of smoking is exaggerated because other things cause cancer too is just apathetic and lazy.
