Is it normal to have violent/suicidal urges while on prozac?

I've been on Prozac for two weeks now for my depression. it was working wonderfully for the first week or so and I felt in top of the world by the second day. I still feel great, but now the side effects are starting to kick in. I'm getting dreams and urges to kill myself and hurt people and animals around me. I even have quite a few plans to do so. I'm scared that I won't be able to control myself and actually kill myself or someone else. I've always been a self-harmer, but it has been getting worse since the Prozac. is it normal to be turned violent and suicidal when taking Prozac?

Go see your doctor. I don't know about your circumstances, but Prozac was a horrible drug for me to take.

If you read the bottle, it says," Side effects include...Suicidal thoughts." You should talk to your psychology/therapist about your dosage. Hope you get better. :)

Yes! Prozac has been known to drive users to kill or hurt themselves and others! Tell your doctor ASAP so they can get you on an alternative antidepressant!!

Ya, these are some of the side affects listed with the drug. I suggest getting back to your doctor ASAP to rearrange your medications. The doctor can always switch you to another drug of the same function that doesn't react with your body so poorly. I personally had negative reactions to the first anxiety meds I tried, so my doctor switched me to Celexa and its been smooth sailing since.

I'm pretty sure suicide or suicidal ideation is a documented side effect of Prozac and similar medications. A proper doctor would have discussed potential side effects with you. I'd speak with a doctor about it, there's maybe an alternative antidepressant that might suit you better.

I don't think that is normal. You should talk to a doctor about this, maybe this treatment is not right for you. Why did you start taking them? For the same feelings you have now?
