Is it normal to have violent dreams?

I have had violent dreams for a long time, say, like over 10 years but I can't be too sure. I'm not a violent person at all, nor am I angry, or even stressed, which could trigger such dreams. Such dreams that I have had awoken me from my sleep punching the wall, choking a pillow...Random acts of violence! Anyway...Such dreams/nightmares(if you would call it that), usually consist of random people, monsters (I've encountered things like zombies or "I Am Legend" things), being chased, etc...You name it and I'm sure it's been in my dream! I've talked about it with many of my friends, coworkers, and loved ones but they all find it just as odd as I do. I'm a happy go lucky type guy and I can honestly say that I'm quite happy where I'm at in my point in my life. Been in a stable relationship with my girlfriend for 6 1/2 years and planning our future already, stable job (which is great in these hard times), my own place and about to purchase a home, I attend church often and even when there isn't service, I'm always doing something for the church...I can't really say there isn't anything wrong in my life but the random dreams. Can anyone tell me why I am having these dreams? And of course, as the title says, "Is it normal to have violent dreams?"

Dreams are just dreams, that's all. They come and go without any meaning or purpose. But if you are really weirded out by these dreams you can always see a dream therapist or try and search what these dreams mean. Good luck :-)

My dreams are mostly violent to me and/or others. My last violent dream had me beaten to death. But when I woke up, I had a knife in my room (all covered in blood). When I look at my arm well I saw a mark (a slash starting the wrist and ending some where in the middle of my arm). So I screamed and so on so forth

My dreams seem to mostly be violent, but not the fun kind of violence. Well, okay there is some fun to them, but other then that, Its usually me being beaten to death. In my dreams, its all I fear put into one twisted nightmare. Blech. Violence outside of the dream world is fun though.

I LOVE my violent dreams, I love being killed in my dreams, or being stabbed or bleeding or fighting, and I LOVE violence in movies.
But I don't practice violence in real life :)
For some reason I just ADORE fictional violence!
    So weird xD

at my happiest points in my life it seemed like i always dreamed of terrible things like home invasion that kills my whole family and i have to watch them die or swimming and seeing plane fly overhead and watch my town get blown up and know my family died...maybe since you are so content it's just your brains way of keeping it interesting. idk but the same thing has happened to me before, once for a year straight dreams like that every night. I would wake up crying real tears or someone else would wake me up b/c i was crying. i wouldn't be too concerned.

  • You should be happy you have dreams at all, I dream very rarely and when I do it's like a David Lynch movie or something.
