Sometimes I'll have either brief or long periods of sharp pains in my heart. Usually it happens in my sleep and it hurts so bad I wake up from it. Other occurances are random.
Sharp chest pain is most likely not caused by any heart condition. It's the usual pain of the pleura (membrane that covers the lungs) and nerves associated with it, that usually begins or worsens with deep breaths and coughs. It can be associated with posture, irregular breathing, and most of the times is bening and not dangerous.
It may not be your heart. It could be a cramp in your lung. I get them too sometimes and they hurt so bad I can't move or breath deeply.
This happens to me sometimes, usually it's very brief shooting pain. Freaks me out.
i think its normal it happens to me and is related to night terrors.

This happens to me. When I went to the doctor's, she said nothing was wrong... I don't smoke, though. Maybe it's stress that's causing the problem.
If you smoke then it's probably vaso-constriction. Or if you have a lot of stress it could be from anxiety. My best friend was having the same problem as you and her dr told her it was from too much stress. Go have it checked out
Also, especially if you were dreaming it could be a panic attack or stress. This can happen if you are having a nightmare or are having stresses in your daily life that go unresolved. You carry daytime issues into your nighttime dreams subconsciously.
