Is it normal to have to touch things a lot of times

When I don't touch things the right way, like touching a doorknob two times, my mind threatens that if I don't touch it again, something happens bad to my parents or family members. Is it a mental disorder?
Another example of touching things, is the remote, i have to touch it on certain spots and if I don't, my mind threatens me like I said above.
Please help, i need answers.

Yeah, that's an OCD thing, I'm pretty freaking sure. I have the same problem, but not to that extent. I always have to press a certain button on the remote every few minutes otherwise I mentally flip out. But yeah.. As long as it doesn't interfere with your daily life - making you unable to do certain tasks, etc., then it isn't a huge issue.

It's probably OCD which is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It means that you have compulsions to do things and you obsess about them. I have it too, but like danielleochoa said, mine got better. Funny, I take Lexapro for depression too.

Anyhow, there are a lot of sites on the net that you could check out. Talk to your doctor before taking meds or anything though.

    Hope this helped.

I had that too and still do!! I have depression and apparently I also have a bit of OCD. It's bot a big deal as long as it doesn't start to interfere with your life.
    Good luck! :)

Yes, this sounds like OCD because usually with OCD you feel like you HAVE to do something otherwise something bad will happen.

I don't mean to obey them, but you need to listen to the threats. Write down what these threats are. Figuring out what's bothering you and then facing it will fix your compulsions. In the meantime, I've thought about something you can do right now to help.

Do something like tap the door-knob an additional time. This will not violate the "rule" that you must do it twice. Additionally, this will immediately break the behavioral pattern and will give you a sense of control/empowerment.
