Is it normal to have this type of acne? what is it?

I'm a female, gonna be 18 soon & am having problems with my face, chest, & back. I have blemishes on those areas, some noticeable, some not-so noticeable but I sure as hell feel it & see it. My skin gets greasy too. especially in humid weather which doesnt help when you live in FL lol. I also wear glasses 24/7 & have heard that they can carry something & make your face break out, idk. I don't know what to make of them? I've tried every face wash I could find & nothing has worked for my face. If you were to look at me from far away you would think my skin is clear, but when you get closer you start seeing the tiny bumps all from my left cheek-to the chin-to my right cheek. For me it's embarrassing. Especially when I try to get rid of them it ends up looking worse & more noticeable than it ever did.

The way it looks... I'll try my best to describe it (& no way am I saying I have severe acne or craters in my face just annoying bumps I never can get rid of). Some look like blackheads, some have whiteheads but I've noticed that its not the normal pus that would usually come out of a blemish; it's dried up, almost capsule like. Sometimes when I pop them they can be stringy but most of the time it's just these dry things.. On my cheeks especially is where it is noticeable because I guess the way to describe it is you can see my pores? They just look like big pore holes.

I blame my father. He's the one with the acne genes & had the same thing & never knew any other way to treat them besides extracting them.

IIN?
Is there a name for it?
I keep telling my mom I need to go to a dermatologist, should I stick to that?
Anyone that has any idea of what I'm talking about, how do you treat them?

What do you wash your face with? I have found that, sometimes, an overuse of various cleansing and exfoliating products can actually make acne worse. If you have sensitive skin, like me, the constant attack of abrasives and degreasing agents actually just makes your skin react by producing more sebum. Sebum is the natural secretion that your skin produces to protect itself [google: acid mantle]. Problems occur when your pores get blocked up, but continue to produce sebum, so the pore fills up. Bacteria can also infect the pore, exacerbating the problem.

I would recommend that you continue to pursue going to see a dermatologist. They will probably put you on courses of antibiotics that will get steadily stronger until you see a reaction. The problem with the weaker ones is that they only work while your are taking them. The problem with the stronger ones is that they can have some pretty serious side effects [google: oxytetracycline and roaccutane].

In the mean time, stop washing your face for a fortnight. Just a fortnight. Give it a good rinse with warm waterin the morning, evening, whatever, but nothing else. No make-up or moisturiser either. Give your skin a chance to recover and see what it is really like when it isn't being exposed to chemicals. If your skin is really dry take a couple of drops [only a couple!] of olive oil and gently massage this into your skin. Wipe away and excess with a cotton wool ball with a couple of drop of water on it. As for the rest of your body, try using a gentle [organic?] bar of soap. Or just some that does not contain sodium lauryl sulphate.

Also, look up the Oil Cleansing Method. This is a way of cleaning your skin that balances its own natural oil production and does not shock the skin. I started doing it a couple of years ago after various lotions, washes and medications did not work. Who knew I was trying too hard to clean my skin?!

That sounds like ordinary acne to me.

    There are various treatments available:
Phototherapy - certain frequencies of light (violet and visible red) have been shown to cause free radicals within skin pores that ultimately kill the bacteria that causes the acne. I used to have a light at home; you use it for 15 minutes on the affected area daily and it can work. I didn't benefit from it myself but it has had a high success rate in test studies, reducing acne in around 80% of people. It's also very safe. Make sure it's red and blue light together though, it's more effective than blue or red on their own.

Dietary - some acne can be caused or exacerbated by an intolerance to certain foods such as dairy products. You might try a process of elimination by excluding certain foods for a month or so at a time to see if this has any impact.

Hormones - since you're female, a common method of eliminating acne is using the contraceptive pill. This worked for a friend of mine at school who used to suffer from severe acne, but was clear within a month after starting on the pill. This doesn't work for everyone of course. There are also other hormone treatments that can work - you'd have to discuss this with a doctor.

Benzoyl Peroxide - usually sold as a topical cream, this attacks the acne-causing bacteria. It can work as well as antibiotics, which are sometimes prescribed to treat acne. I used to use it but found that it severely dried my skin and, as peroxide suggests, bleaches fabric. Bedsheets and towels were ruined. It didn't work for me but it might do for you.

There are some suggestions anyway. I'm sure there are more options out there. Perhaps you could speak to a doctor and see what they recommend trying.

It sounds totally normal, just a mild case of very minor acne. I know what you mean by your description and there's nothing weird about it.

Here's what to do: Chemical peels. Do it yourself!! It's costly if you have it done by a Dr but it's sooo cheap to do it yourself. Buy it on amazon, and FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS!! Get advice from every source you can before doing it. Do microdermabrasion in between peels. You can buy microdermabrasion crystals real cheap too.

Go to the doctor. Some people get very severe acne. That only medication can fix.

that is called completely normal acne. i'd say, stand in a steaming shower for 20 minutes, this will open up your pours. then use some basic elmer's liquid glue ( or an acne product that acts in the same way) and put it over your acne. let it dry and then peel it off perpendicular to your face.

It's hormones darlin'. It will even out. Some people take birth control pills because the estrogen evens out hormones and helps with acne.

I agree with Dontworry. Also, keep your hair, hands and bed pillows clean. My daughter had acne, and I kind of know what you're going through. Hope this helps; if not, see a dermatologist.

I highly recommend you don't use the crap medication that is prescribed with harsh nasty chemicals. I think you should give the Oil Cleansing Method (OCM) a go. Just google the method and try it at least a few times. I swear it should help, if not completly cure you skin!!

I don't get it, you have this problem but you keep on telling your mother than you need to see a doctor?? Why do you need to tell her? Just go yourself. You don't need her involvement or approval. You're almost an adult, time to start being independent and act like one.

First of all you shouldn't pop anything as it usually results in scaring. I've struggled for years with a similar problem and then I tried proactive and it help with everything, even the red spots cleared up. Proactive is expensive but anything with benzoyl peroxide should help with it as long as you stick with a regiment
