Is it normal to have these type of nightmares

So I've been having these dreams about terrifiying things. It's mostly me seeing something terrible happening and not being able to scream out.

This is an example;

I sat in the livingroom with my little sister, watching T.V. My brother was upstairs together with pretty much the rest of my family. I then saw two men creeping over to our house with knives and such, they climbed over the balcony and started to open the doors.

I was pertified, so I grabbed my sister, ran to the base of the stairs and started screaming to my mother and brother about what was happening, but my voice was hoarse all of the sudden, then, no more sound came out, no matter what I did. I was unable to speak.

Then I ran upstairs, banged the doors of everyone's room, but it was like the door was suddenly a wall and no matter how hard I banged, you could hear nothing, my fists were so weak or something, like they never landed and I felt like a three year old trying to move a car or something.

Then I usually wake up.

When I wake up, I just shrug it off, but it's been bothering me.

This is NOT sleep paralysis, please tell me. Are there more people who have these type of dreams? Is this normal?

Your inability to scream suggests a sort of paralysis. Where in your life do you feel stunted, impotent and essentially paralyzed? Are you closer to your little sister than the rest of your family? Do you feel isolated in anyway from the rest of your family? Do you feel the need to prove yourself to your family?

It's always me with a younger family member. I don't feel very isolated, I figured it was me not being able to cry out for help in real life. I always just freeze and run when something terrible happens, but never like I do in dreams.

Um hmm, yes. So it's a manifestation of a fear of that paralysis you experience in real life when faced with crisis.

Now, the question would be what are you going to do about it? Perhaps learning some skills to prepare for a possible crisis would a good proactive move?

I found that lucid dreaming helps, I'll try it to see if it stops, if not, I'll try to prepare myself for anything that might happen later on.

If you are really interested, go get a book on dreams. There are many, many books about searching out the meaning of dreams.

If you have a phobia or fear of something similar to that of your nightmares, I would say that it is normal. When I have a nightmare or a dream about terrifying things, I usually have a fear of whatever is happening in real life.

I would suggest doing dream analysis but peeps don't even know why we dream in the first place so trying to find meaning in them will probs be a fruitless venture. But yeah, these dreams happen to a lot of people. These kinds of nightmares are actually one of the most common among people across a variety of differing cultures. If they're recurring the best thing you can do is just not think about them because then you're less likely to manifest the fear in uncontrolled dreams if you just forget about them.

Also, these are usually the kinds of nightmares i have when i have bad dreams. One time I actually succeeded in screaming and moving in my dream but my friend who was sleeping over that night freaked out cause apparently i screamed and kicked in real life too :D lol So I think that you can't scream or fight in these dreams because your body is asleep and your brain is trying to activate it but can't. It's not sleep paralysis but its actually why we get sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis would be if you awoke from the dream before the rest of your body, but the reason you can't do anything drastic in your dream is just a signal that you're asleep because your brain releases a chemical that relaxes your body so you don't sleepwalk and talk in our sleep. Here's a Dnews video that mentions this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wx4B03UJ1U

That is the best explaination I have gotten so far. Thank you! I guess I'll try lucid dreaming to see if it helps.

        I found this:

To dream that you are being attacked by someone indicates your character is being questioned. You feel the need to defend yourself. You are feeling stressed, vulnerable and helpless. You may also be facing difficult changes in your waking life. Dreaming of an attack provides a way for you to confront these situations that you may be avoiding in real life.

My sister and my mom have dreams like that. I'm the only one in my family that never does; I only have crazy, childish dreams.

No it's not normal, you are unique, you are probably transporting through portals into other dimentions.

There, is that what you wanted to hear!?

Why comment if your just going to be a dick or it has nothing to do with what they asked? I believe this is a place to ask questions and get an answer not a dickhead reply.

What does that have to do with anything. These dreams really frighten me, go away if you can't help me.
