I suppose I have never enjoyed being a part in the mainstream.Anything in any conceivable category of art(i.e.film,literature,music,etc,) has me growing a disdain for it if the masses are enjoying it, as it seems that,although not always,high levels of popularity correspond with lower quality movies, or songs, or whatever.

You don't hate mainstream media. You hate that it's in your face. Think about it, Twilight is a crap book and so many people hate it. But if it wasn't so famous and constantly in our face we wouldn't care to hate it.
I don't hate trends but I just f*cking hate UGGS. their ugly and impractical and destroy ur feet and cause foot and ankle problems and I HATE that trend
I'm the same, the media, I agree is a large factor with why it can be so unbearable, you are constantly being fed images and videos and perceptions of how your life could be better with said item. Or to be this perfect stereotype of what a man or woman desires by doing so on and so forth...i think everyone personally prefers an individual to a mainstream desperado...most importantly though is the desire to stay true to yourself as an individual.
