Is it normal to have so many nightmares??

ive always had really bad dreams ever since i was young, i guess that's normal for any child!i ended up getting a dream catcher and that seemed to do the job! but in recent years i have been having more bad dreams and recently they have become more vivid and real they scare the hell out of me so much i wake up crying or struggling to breath the most recent one i had was just so scary i was injured in my dream but the pain almost felt real, i have been told eating cheese before you go sleep causes it, thats a load of bull because i sometimes eat cheese before i go sleep and dont always have nightmares.
Any suggestions please to help me dream better stuff than what i am nw!

Seriously, your diet can dramatically effect how you sleep and result in horrible nightmares. Caffiene, sugar and spicy foods in particular will cause you to hover in a dream state, creating very realistic visions of suffering. This also happens to people who suffer from Sleep Apnea occasionally, something that happens when your airway is blocked like when people snore. Also, these dreams can be a precursor to diabetes later in life, especially if you have started gaining weight. Hope this helps.

Were your dreams about a horribly burnt man in a sweater who had knives on the ends of his fingers?

I suffer from nights terrors as well, though with mine I normally wake up thinking the dream has actually happened. For example, once I had a dream that my mother had been killed in a car accident. I woke up and had a full blown panic attack. My family had to call my mom and get her to come to the house before I would believe she was alive.

It could be something self conscious. I have nightmares frequently, but can usually attribute them to an insecurity, fear, or thought I was having the day(s) or night before I fall asleep.

Are you repressing a thought of something that happened when you were a child?? If so that can sometimes give you nightmares
