Is it normal to have sleep paralysis episodes continuously?

I get sleep paralysis once in a while, normally only 1-4 times a year. Last night, however, was one of the worst nights I've ever come across, as far as getting to sleep.
EVERY TIME I almost fell asleep, I'd awaken and then go through the whole SP ordeal.
I won't be able to move, breathe, talk, scream, and so on. I'd feel the pressure on my chest, the hands around my throat, have the utmost terrifying hallucinations, and feel like I'm going to die. I saw a dark cloaked figure once, an old lady another time, a clown, a dog...
And each time I woke up, I jolted up with tears in my eyes, screaming, crying, and gasping for air.
This continued on many times last night, and my partner says that only about 3 hours of total sleep was accomplished. I don't even feel drained today. I'm just really dreading going back to sleep later on tonight.

Anyone ever have multiple/continuous SP throughout a night?
Any interesting stories?
Also, what are your thoughts - medical/scientific, or paranormal/extra-terrestrial/spiritual?

THANKS!

Yeah I've been getting quite a lot this year. It's horrible, a few weeks ago it actually felt like something was pulling my duvet off me and I woke up & threw a punch because I felt like something was there.

I'm back. lol. It just happened to me a couple minutes ago! =..( It was different this time though. So I started falling asleep and all of a sudden I opened my eyes and I couldn't move. The door was open so there was a dim light in the room and it's all I could see, it was kinda blurry. I tried to move but I couldn't, then I saw a shadow pass by the light coming towards me. I felt my legs being pulled apart so I started freaking out but tried to relax and my fear went away but would come back again when I tried moving my hand or foot. :( I don't want to get raped by an incubus whether it's real or not. >.<

    • Holy fuck I know what you mean! The second time that ever happened to me I could've sworn a hand was touching more than just my neck...

Your partner? Care to be a little more specific? Are we taking some homosexual shit or normal, heterosexual shit? This actually matters when it comes to SP. I'm not sure if you've seen the studies on homo/heterosexuality and SP but they are very interesting.

    • Heterosexual. Although, I do like both genders...?
What have you learned about SP and sexual orientation?

I've had this before. It's medical.

    • Did yours ever go away? I haven't had it since that night, so I'm kind of glad about that. I just don't want it to start up like it did.

It happens once every few months, I would say. Sometimes I'll go a year or two without it happening. I take medication to sleep, though, so I don't know if that's part of it.

        • I take Trazodone (switched off of Ambien) at night...BUT it happened before when I wasn't on anything. I was sick with the flu, though...that's the first time I got it.

I sometimes have that sort of thing. It might have something to do with the meds I'm taking.

It's probably caused by stress. That's all I can say about it. Don't really know what do to about it apart from... not being stressed.

I kept having them for about a whole week every time I would wake up or fall asleep. Most of them were mild; I couldn't move. The one I remember the most was when I was falling asleep and all of a sudden I couldn't move or breathe and it felt like something was choking me. It just felt like an evil presence, nothing specific. I think I thought of an old lady once. I never saw anything but I felt like that's what was there. Bahaha why are old ladies so scary?

For me I think it happens when I'm really stressed out, especially if I fall asleep on my back.

    • Do you still have them? If you don't, is there something you do differently now than you did before?

I only had it a couple nights a few months ago. I didn't really do anything besides try not to fall asleep on my back. I heard it happens more often when you sleep on your back.

        • Yeah, I heard that, too. I tried to sleep on my side last night, but it was just awful. I kept switching sides (I was in a car accident, so the side I used to sleep on all the time is a little messed up still) and tossing and turning. I fell asleep on my back (go figure), and nothing happened. So it was just a random chain.
My partner had no idea wtf was going on, LOL.

lol. Yeah I've only ever gotten them in clusters. My boyfriend had a few after we watched The Fourth Kind. He's afraid of aliens and he thought they came to abduct him.

            • Lol, well, I dunno about aliens. If someone else is next to you, and awake, they know you weren't abducted, haha.
