I would trust a doctor's diagnosis over those of people on IIN. You may want a second evaluation from an expert, especially if you don't think the diagnosis is correct. Best of luck!

  • Mild autism would be diagnosed as either aspergers or pervasive developmental disorder nos. If you have a schizophrenic related disorder instead the symptoms would be disingenerative and fluctuating whereas autism is always the same. Other schizophrenic spectrum disorders include schizoaffective disorder, schizophreniform disorder, schizotypal disorder and schizoid personality disorder. Its also possible you could have traits of both or neither and have something else like ocd or adhd.

Many people who have been initially diagnosed as autistic turned out to be just slow developers, but I agree with 1234. You need to see a good psychologist.

It's possible. There are many different conditions that can mimic the symptoms of autism. One way to be sure that you're not autistic is if these symptoms weren't always present. The symptoms of autism are always there and usually people with autism are diagnosed early. For instance, I used to think I had both Aspergers and Schizophrenia but now after some deeper research I no longer believe this is the case...

There are many signs of each specific type of diagnosis. It's best to leave that to the doctors, although 1234 has a point, a second opinion can't hurt (except the wallet).

You probably have notism. It's a real disorder where people think they have autism but don't.

Could be a misdiagnoses. I would rather go with schitso and not autistic though. I think it would be worse being diagnosed as Autistic since Crazy people already get a lot of right taken away. Why would you choose Autism?

Hmm, well I do think some of the symptoms could be similar, however I'm a lowly psych student who still has a good way to go on her major. If you're unsure about the diagnosis I'd get a second opinion.

Oh and if you went to a psychiatrist, I would honestly reccomend goign to a therapist instead. They give you longer sessions and ultimately I feel they do a better job. My counselor has a pretty good understanding of what I'm going through and has been able to help point the way to diagnosis. My psychiatrist talked to me for 5 minutes and tried to put me on antispychotics for anxiety. I threw that shit in a fire.

In retrospect I had such symptoms too during childhood. I was never diagnosed as such either.
