Is it normal to have reoccuring painful hallucinations?
Ever since I was younger, I've had visual hallucinations when I would try to fall asleep -- they would appear in geometric patterns, noises, and sometimes even insects. I've recently found out that these are called hypnagogic hallucinations, and are relatively harmless. However, I've also had horribly painful hallucinations when trying to fall asleep. Upon closing my eyes, green streaks appear across my vision that are blinding and "burn" the inside of my eyelids. I've had to continuously sleep with my light on, and not close my eyes until I physically had to, since I was six or seven years old.
Also, I've had other hallucinations during the day. Once was when I was younger, I heard music and thought there was something wrong with my computer as it was completely off; the music didn't stop, and no one else was able to hear it. It wasn't until now that I realized there was never any music playing. I have also heard a voice in my head criticizing and talking to me, to which I have replied, sometimes in my mind and sometimes out loud.
I also suffer from paranoid "delusions", to which I refuse to go into further detail on. I've had them since I was younger, and they do not go away.
A more recent daytime hallucination that I've had, I'm actually not sure was a hallucination at all. Apparently, you can suffer from gustatory, or taste, hallucinations. When I was eating, I got this horrible metallic taste from the food and silverware, and had to change what and how I ate. My parents, upon tasting the food, repeatedly told me there was no metallic taste, and the silverware was perfectly fine. I'm not exactly sure whether the metallic taste was real, or if it was all in my head.
Anyway, my question is: Is it normal to have painful, or any, hallucinations that impair your sleep/daily life? Do you hear voices or taste things that do not really exist?
