Is it normal to have random urges to do things?

It started when I was around twelve, although I randomly blinked sometimes in 4th grade or so when anxious. I excessively blink and my friends notice and tell me. I also feel the need to crack my back and neck at random times, and sometimes I don't even realize that I am doing it. I also feel the need to clear my throat because it is always clogged for some reason. I also do things like wiping erasers off of other peoples desks, putting my mouse on all side of the computer screen equally, blinking a specific number of times, and some other things. I am in no way an organized person, so I feel as if it isn't OCD. When I am angry these urges grow and sometimes it causes me to hurt my neck when in my "hulk mode". I was just wondering if anyone else had any of these problems, and if they knew what it was.

    Um... Er... OH YEAH!!

I was gonna run, so I got ready and stuff... One of my friends were bending down holding their knees... thier butt was in the air... (And they do weird stuff with me so yeah) I had the urge to slap it... HARD... and run away. I know he would get angry, but I don't care! You can't hurt a girl!! *gets whacked by the cast* GAWD, DUDE! THAT HURT!!!

O-Oh... is that what you meant? If not, th-then... Um... JUSTFORGETEVERYTHING!! º///^///º

Um... But I do have to crack my neck and it became a habit because of my torticollis.

OCD stands for obsessive compulsive disorder. In no way does it mean you have to be super organized or a neat freak to have it. However, I do know people who have done some of these things before. You may grow out of it, but if it ever does get worse, maybe try seeing a psychiatrist.

    • Sorry, my friends just tell me that I don't have it because I am not organized, so I just assumed that OCD was out of the question.

I'm not making a diagnosis. But it sounds just like OCD. There are many forms of OCD, not just the Hollywood version with the hand washing.

One of the things that separate humans from other animals is our ability to control our urges. I believe it's called self control; look it up.

    • It doesn't really work for me. It's like breathing. You can stop your breathing, but eventually you'll need to breathe.

You should research what Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is and then reevaluate whether or not you think you still don't have it.

  • I do similar things but they're a bit different. I do the constant throat clearing and know what you mean it always feels clogged. I have quite a few ocd behaviors that are atypical for regular ocd symptoms. I do have aspergers though which is mild autism which causes ocd like traits. This doesn't necessarily mean you have autism though. I understand it can be near impossible to stop certain things as I do behaviors that seem completely sub-conscious. I am impulsive as well and sometimes I think before I act, but most the time I do not. I just do stuff with no thought put into the behavior and most people do not understand this at all. I have done things before such as punch out a window when I wasn't even mad for absoultly no reason or thought resulting in me having about 20 stitches in my hand.
It's scary too because I never know what I could do.
I do impulsive things for fun as well but the automatic behavior is different.

Sometimes I see stuff and have a random urge to pick it up and look at it, or random urges to walk around and clean or something. But I don't have OCD. I'm random like that.

The blinking thing.. Been there done that... It's something you need to let go... I did so many years ago now.

I used to blink and stare at the sun.. Drove my friends crazy. But it was many years ago as i said :)
