Is it normal to have oily hair but still have dandruff?

So the title says it all. I have naturally really oily hair and I have to wash it everyday to keep it from looking nasty. But I get really bad dandruff. Those two things don't seem to fit together?

Dandruff is indeed caused from a fungus, and ketoconazole shampoo as suggested above is an antifungal. There are other anti-dandruff shampoos available, but ketoconazole is the best from my experience. There is a brand you can get OTC called nizoral, but it's kinda hard to find. If you can get some it is VERY helpful. It makes you feel better all over. Highly recommend this to help your situation!

If the above suggestions don't work, ask your doctor for some ketoconazole shampoo.

There is something you're doing or something you're not doing that's keeping your hair oily. Try what dappled said to see if it works for you.

I'm not going to get into the science of it but these two conditions can often co-exist. Have you tried tea tree shampoo? I tend to use it in summer because it can be quite cooling as well, a bit like menthol. My sister has oily hair and swears by it.
