Is it normal to have no sympathy towards most situations???

Basically I feel completely heartless towards people for no apparent reason some of the time, meaning I could quite easily laugh in the face of my friend if I was told a relationship between my friend and the other person was broken prematurely......HAHAHA! And sometimes in the worst case scenario I have laughed at death ._. I know that part isn't normal. But in general Is this normal??? (old guy has heart attack...PAHAHA)

  • Oh don't worry I'm really not very sympathetic either :L
I'm a 15 yr old girl and I tend to laugh or make ironic jokes when something bad happens. I'm not stuck up my own arse or anything, like I don't think I'm better than anyone else I just don't really feel a lot of sympathy except for Bambi. Bambi has all of my sympathy :P

  • HelloNurse!

It is a coping mechanism... One of my old friends laughed when people vomited...She became a nurse, wonder how that's working out for her...

I don't think you don't actually care. Maybe a coping mechanism?

in most situations, or all situations?
have you ever heard about exisentialism?
the belief that life is absurd, there is no reason or meaning for anything. "the outsider" a book i read in highschool by Albert Camus, a great existential writer, made me aware of this, and it felt the more i read through the eyes of his emotionless characters the more i became like them. its about complete honesty and no feelings. The character in the book killed an arab man in self defence, but wouldnt simply lie in court to save himself. he honestly said he did not regret it but felt a kind of annoyance, he wouldve prefered it not happen. and so he was condemned for not fitting into societys expectations and social norms. its a great read, i recommend it.

I feel like this about some things. Such as when someone remarks about starvation in Africa, I reply "They should get a job".
