Is it normal to have no idea what to say to women?

I am a 21 year old male. I have had a couple girlfriends in highschool that i was friends with first. I am now seeing that i have no idea how to talk to strange women. I don't even know how to break the ice. I wouldn't say that i am nervous to talk to women it's just that i really have nothing to say or how to say it. The advice just be yourself kind of doesn't work because I am not a douche bag and that's what attractive girls go for. Any help would be awesome!

    I go out with my guy friends to bars quite often. I get told i'm hot quite often but when i speak i kind of blow it. It just doesn't make any sense because the friends i go with are fat or not very good looking and they always end up with some hot chicks number. They are obviously saying something that makes them attracted to them. What do i say or do?
