Is it normal to have nightmares in a specific position?

For as long as I can remember I've always had nightmares, but ONLY while sleeping in a certain position which is on my back. Any other position is fine but as soon as I fall asleep on my back, the nightmares begin. Even if a dream turns to a nightmare when I wake up, I'm on my back even if I was previously sleeping on my side or stomach. A few times went as far as night terrors. Is it a condition or something? 'Cause I haven't heard about it from anyone else

It's sleep paralysis. My boyfriend gets the exact same thing you do.

sometimes nightmares are our brains way of telling us were uncomfortable in the position were in. i get nightmares when i sleep on my left side. when im in that position i put a lot of strain on my heart which is really uncomfortable.

    • For me the back is the most comfortable position

Have you tried sleeping on your front/side?

When you sleep on your back, do you lie straight or do you spread yourself out/have a limb in the air? (Or something else I hadn't thought of).

        • I pretty much only sleep on my side or front. As long as I'm on my back doesn't matter how everything is if I'm in my back I'll have a nightmare

Boyfriend has said the exact same things to me!

I think all you can really do is find ways of making sleeping on your side/front as comfortable as possible (More/fewer pillows; memory foam mattress/bedding, flipping the mattress over every now and again etc etc).

If you're sleeping with anybody else [Not necessarily in THAT way] and they see you moving around or making motions with your mouth that you're crying out but no sound is coming out, those are signs you're having a paralysis attack.
Some people might want to be left alone suring those times, but others might want to be woken up and held until the scariness passes.
