Is it normal to have never used a tampon?

I'm a 21 year old white girl and I have never used a tampon... I just use pads. Is this normal? I am not a freak. I'm am perfectly normal but my mom just never taught me how when I was younger... I have had sex with many guys so it's not that I have never had anything in there. For some reason I'm still scared to try it. I'm afraid it will get stuck or something. However I'm afraid that I smell when I'm on my period because I use pads... I'm am very clean and hygienic though. So is it normal to be this age and have never used a tampon? (and what should I do) thanks.

  • I tried to use one before and I hated it, it was the weirdest feeling ever. Plus even though pads have a chance to leak, I know that tampons can too.

Although my mother uses tampons but I just can't stand them, I actually prefer pads.

If you could feel it it wasn't deep enough.

      • Not really, I mean my vagina isn't a naturally loose thing... and you tend to feel something inside your body. I know it was in correctly because I checked and went at an angle when putting it in. Plus the string was hanging outside, I did look lol XD

I just didn't like it, it was annoying me XD

If you can feel it it's not deep enough. I've been using tampons since I was 11 so I wasn't exactly loose.

I'm 18, and I've never used tampons... mostly because I'm also sort of afraid to use them (Mostly because I have no idea how to use them to begin with). I just use pads, and I'm fine with it... I just can't swim during my period, that's all.

they're hard to slide in at first and slightly uncomfortable. but just keep practicing..you'll get it eventually.

My mother was always against them. Some religious things or other. But I've still never used them. Maybe I'll have to give them a try too ;)

If you want to try it, try it. It will likely be uncomfortable until you get the hang of it. And when it's in place, you'll know. But they have strings for a reason- trust me when I say you will not lose it.

However there is nothing wrong with not using them. You could also try moon cups or diva cups if you're feeling extra experimental.

I think most girls stick with the choice of their mother (or most of the girls I know do, anyway). There's nothing wrong with that.

I had this problem as well. I'm 21 and JUST started using tampons as well. I think its totally normal to feel scared that it may get stuck or something along that matter even if you've had sex. My cousin was the one who taught me to use one or talked my way through the process.
I think that if one day you want to try make sure you are 100% comfortable with the idea. I'm one of those people who have to sit down with the directions or information before i even open/use anything. So if it makes you feel comfortable sit down with it in the bathroom and read exactly what you have to do. They have the directions in the packaging. I f you decide to use one also make sure you are relaxed. I find it easier to just sit on the toilet rather then put my leg up and try from there. I occasionally use tampons just because I'm still getting used to them.
Don't feel weird about not using a tampon everyone has their personal preferences. Wish you the best of luck!
(also if you do decide-Tampax pearl plastic kind is a good brand)
    Hope this helps!
