If it is from personal choice, then does it really matter if it's normal or common or not? If it's what you want, then so be it. It's not hurting anyone.
I feel like, relationships terrify me far too much... and I would much prefer to focus on myself... I also feel as if I'm not a very nice person and thus would not like to place my burden upon anyone else. I'm also not a very 'romantic' person and I ddon really like all the 'soppy' 'loveydovey' stuff... maybe I'm asexual/aromantic... all though I'm not sure... who knows? Do you think I should try a relationship before making this decision? I'm not sure I'd ever be able to... they give me a lot of anxiety :/
I think it all depends on why you have decided to be alone.
Because you want to focus on yourself?
Or is it because you tell yourself you want to be alone as an excuse to not put yourself out there and risk rejection?
