Is it normal to have little sympathy for others?

Okay, so many people on the internet tell me about their problems that to me I just couldn't care less any more. They'll talk about their depression, or like some tragic past, but I really, *really* don't feel a drop of sadness for them. Everyone I know has a sad, 'tragic' past, literally. It's boring to me, but I at least still pretend to care. Does any one else do this?

I'm pretty apathetic. There are tragedies that happen daily and I'm like "meh." I do pretend to care since showing that I actually don't care pisses people off.

I feel it was normal if it was people on the internet, but if you meet people in real life that have ha terrible experiences and dont care then it isnt really normal and is a symptom of some mental illnessess

Everybody has a different capacity for sympathy. Don't feel bad if you don't feel sympathy to people you're not connected to, I usually don't either unless it's similar to something I've experienced myself. Good for you for pretending to care, if somebody brings up those things up in conversation it's polite to show your sympathy.
