Is it normal to have lead stuck in your finger for years?

Ten years ago, in 8th grade, I had a mechanical pencil accidentally jammed into my index finger. The lead went so deep I felt it touch bone and it broke off! I was shocked but I never attempted to remove the piece of lead left in my finger. The lead has been in the same exact spot for over a decade and I'm wondering if it's normal for it to stay in a body this long and if it will ever go away?

In 2nd grade I stabbed a little bully boy in the hand for stealing other people's things. He reached for something of mine and...boom went the dynamite. It's still there today.

Graphite is a form of carbon. Besides water, your body is mostly made of carbon, and its inert anyway. You'll be fine.

first of all- it's not lead, it's impure graphite :L doctors might get a shock if you tell them you're full of lead.

well, to be honest, though it's not killed you, it can't be good for you. for one, as it is slowly broken down, your body may grow into it and snap it. this could get shards into your bloodstream and cut you up bad :( the same or similar things could happen if you jabbed something too hard with the finger or bashed it.

it's amazing it didn't get infected! if it had, you'd never trust anybody with a pencil again.

it's probably not good for you to have these chemicals in your body anyway. go ask your doctor when you can about it

I accidently stabbed myself in the leg once in year 2 and it stayed there for a very long time, but disappeared eventually :-)

I've actually got two pieces in my left hand from elementary school. It's been almost 15 years and I forget they're there.

There's a chance your body will break it down, or reject it, causing it to go, but it's more likely it will just grow around it, leaving it there. If there were any threat you'd know by now.
