Is it normal to have hair on your face, and stomach as a woman?

Well I'm an 18 year old female and within the past few years Ive been getting more hair on places like my face and stomach. The thing is I'm very very blond and usually any hair (head, arms, etc) is very light. But this is much darker and coarser. It has made me very self conscious and I started using an epilator (for those who don't know, its like 100 tweezers that go in a circle and pull the hair out at the roots, its faster than tweezing one by one) But I'm just wondering if this is normal? I told one of my friends and she said that its because I'm of German decent and that its common, but I never see it on anyone else..If anyone has any tips they would be appreciated. Thanks!

you may have polysistic ovarian syndrome, one of the affects of it is increased testosterone causing hair growth in other places.

Yes, every human has at least light hair on their faces and stomachs. There is nothing wrong with you! It is so normal for a woman to have hair there, our culture just makes people think that women having any hair besides on their heads or eyebrows is unnatural, but it's not.

It is a process called virilization. Have you been taking any steroids recently? It can happen naturally in certain women who have got a naturally high testosterone production, particularly after the menopause,so there is nothing so strange about it. Kind of turn off tho.

You might want to have your hormone levels checked just in case.

i'm of german decent and I don't have this. I do have some hair on my face but it's very light and thin. sounds like a hormonal issue.

^ lol at darkoil and it might be something called PCOS. Google it.. if your symptoms are the same.. I'd recommend you see a doctor.. Or grow out your chin hairs and join the circus.. Either way, you need to do something about it.

I've never heard of an epilator. Do they work well?

    • They work well, but it hurts like hell. Hair doesn't grow back for awhile though.

It gets worse as you get older!

You should have laser treatment which will last for many years until the hormones really kick in at about 40.
