Is it normal to have had it with sarcasm?

I can take a joke hey I can be sarcastic myself too. But when its constant, all the mother f*cken time, its like get real. Do you not know how to portray real feelings? And there's always truth behind a joke especially sarcasm. So it gets freakin annoying like why don't you just confront me in real terms not sarcasm so you think you can get away with it. Every time I confront the person, they're like "I was just playing" I'm like no you weren't I know thats how you really feel and just cause you're "playing" I'm not gonna leave you alone nor look at you funny or still a nice person. It's almost like they use their sarcasm as an excuse. It gets old, it can seem cynical, smart-a**, its rude even if its just a joke you're being rude since we both know that's how you really feel. I'm getting over it but I don't want to look like this sensitive child who can't take jokes because I love laughing and I love funny people. It's just it would be nice to be understood and where my frustration is coming from. They say that sarcastic people can't face reality and I'm starting to see that.

that type of sarcasm used to convey one's true feelings without having to really address them is a form of passive-aggressiveness. sarcasm for plain humor is awesome

    • Yeah I agree it can be a form of passive-aggressiveness which annoys the f*ck out of me too. If you know WHEN and HOW to use sarcasm then you'll be okay.

Are you really under the impression that when people say things sarcastically they actually mean what they're saying? I'll use sarcasm on occasion to make a point, but I usually mean the exact opposite of what I say.

    • Yes. Like I said I can stand sarcasm, its funny, yay. But when you use it all the time it just means you can't be real and use sarcasm as a way to hide your real feelings so you don't get in trouble. Just because you're funny doesn't mean I'll laugh along with you and let it go. It's no cover.

This is the problem with text based communication. I can't tell if you're trying to be sarcastic or actually trying to make a point.

I have an ex who would do just that. I KNOW it's because he couldn't openly talk about his feelings. When I'd try to have a serious, face to face discussion with him, he would be sarcastic and give hurtful replies. There were times when I couldn't even tell he was being sarcastic.

I would leave and get 500 texts on my phone with apologies and sincere replies to my questions and concerns. He couldn't have a sincere and serious discussion with me IRL, it had to be over the phone. He used sarcasm as a shield. The pussy.

I get where you're coming from. I don't like it, and don't use it much. Usually my annoyance comes from my perception of people not having the ability to be sincere about their feelings.

    • Yes I discussed it with a psychology professor recently and basically she said what I thought. Its a safe way for them so they don't get in trouble or they're just testing the person which makes them look even more stupid cause they're waiting for the reaction of the person if theyll get mad or not about their comment and if they do then that's when they say "I'm just kidding." So basically sarcastic people can be a little insecure and that also explains why they can't be real about their feelings. Sigh...they're just so annoying especially one I have to deal with, she really thinks she's getting away with it but she's really asking for it. And I feel it coming very soon, maybe today even.

Sarcasm is a great tool for those who dont have the guts to speak their true feelings. Theyre mot tryin to be cute n funny, they cant help it

    • Not everyone. And that's exactly why they're annoying because they don't have the guts to be real because they know they will get in trouble. Like I said maybe not everyone and maybe not in every case. But there are those who use it as a cover to look funny without looking like a bad person.

Same. Yeah I get it and it's a popular form of humor but it just gets annoying to me cause everyone does it as if it is the most clever thing they know

It really does get totally old sometimes, and I'm not saying that sarcastically. Constant attempts at irony and sarcasm just wear the shine off everything eventually. Sometimes you just want to laugh unsarcastically at something silly and fun.

It's completely normal, and you aren't a sensitive child for feeling that way. You just have a more educated funny bone than the one-note would-be comedians around you. :)

So you've had it with sarcasm? Why don't you just remove the "sar" from sarcasm. That way you can see it as "Casm" and start fresh all over again :)
