Is it normal to have far fewer in college than in hs?

Highschool for me was great because I had a super wide social circle of people from a lot of different schools and some dropputs, whose company I all valued equally. Most of my friends were honestly pretty weird, which was what attracted me to them, and most are involved with the local music scene, mostly punk and metal.

My freshman year at college couldn't have been more different. The social scene of the school is completely homogenous; Northeasterrn preppy kids who enjoy exclusively Lil Wayne and dubstep. I don't hate them, I just have nothing in common with 99% of the people I meet. I'm honestly just bored by "normal" people. I had a "friend" group, I guess, but it was just people I consistently spent time with and wouldn't miss if I never saw them again. It's like if I was in highschool but was only able to hang out with people from my own school. I tried to keep an open mind all throughout the year, but I just kept meeting more and more of the same type of people. All of my other friends have made close friends at college and have a diverse social circle, and don't seem to have nearly as homogenous a general social scene at the school. Maybe I'm expecting too much too soon after just my first year, but it sounds a little extreme to me to not care about a single person I met my freshman year.

I guess I should transfer, but how would I know where? The regular college touring process didn't really seem to work out with my first choice.

Again, just to reiterate, I don't hate the type of people I'm describing, or think I'm better than them, I just can't relate to them.
