Is it normal to have doubts of your future?

I used to be so confident that I would become a great singer someday. Now with my dad saying i can't sing then saying "it's a joke", i feel like i'll never get anywhere with a music career. I mean, is it normal to feel that not even your dad , out of anyone, doubts your abilities?

Forget about what my dad says and keep singing. 21

If you like singing, sing! Forget what your father says. If your voice needs some work, there are ways for you to improve it. Get voice lessons if you have to. But nobody should make you feel like what you love is a joke, or that you can't do it.

Go to a karaoke bar. If you're booed off the stage, you may want to rethink what you want to do. If you're not, see what people think.

If you're feeling confident enough, get some honest opinions from other people too - friends, other family members. It might be nerve racking but you don't really have anything to lose. It's a tough thing to break in to but when you hear some of the utter crap that gets through the net... doesn't that give you confidence?! (People that can't sing get record deals... not that I agree with that.)

I don't agree with the options provided. Ask other people (and not just friends who would obviously tell you you're good) if you can sing, just in case your dad's an ass or is trying to get you to forget this career dream, because face it, even if you were incredible it's unlikely you'll get much attention. If you are good, remember to have a good secure job on the side to support you if your dream is unsuccessful.

If your own father says you can't sing, chances are - you can't sing. But ask others first, before you sack it in. These people blabbering on about following your dreams are all well and good but if you actually can't sing, you dreams will not be what you hope them to be.

  • You have to remember that in a deluge of opinions, the truth isn't always among them.

I do think you should consider his advice and make your decision from there. But people aren't all-seeing. You can't expect their view to always be the same as yours on things nor to blindly trust in all of your endeavors.

If people didn't just give their dream a chance, we wouldn't have a music industry :)

Worst case scenario, you're awful and get nowhere. Nobody will get hurt if you give it a go.
