Is it normal to have dark patches on skin?

I have dark patch of skin on my left arm around the bicep which goes around above the armpit onto my left chest. I'm male and i have lived in spain for 3 years before i noticed the dark patches which was disguised behind my tanned skin. Is this the reason for the dark patch of skin or is this more serious?

a holistic cure is to take organic cold pressed castor oil with a little bit of baking soda and gently scrub it off

As long as they are not painful spots you shouldn't worry about them.

Yes, I get this sometimes especially on the tops of my feet (where I usually don't wear sun lotion). Still, you should always keep track of your moles especially if you're not used to living in a hot climate. My dad had a dark patch of skin on his face that turned out to be the beginnings of melanoma. He is fair skinned and spent too much time in his 20s on ships out in the middle of the ocean with no spf.

Sometimes we just get patches of slightly darker skin. Something to do with melanin.

This is just a suggestion but maybe it could be some form of sun damage.
