Is it normal to have an on and off switch feelings for him?

So I just broke up with my boyfriend for a couple different reasons one being I complained about the relationship way too much to my friends so I ended it but like my question is one minute I will be in love with him and the next I just feel like I care about him and that's it is this normal? I felt like it all through the three months we were together, it's like my feeling for him have an on and off switch!
