Is it normal to have a white tongue?
No matter what I do, I always have this thin, white-ish layer on my tongue that won't seem to go away. Is it normal to have this, and does anybody know how to get rid of it?

It's yeast. Cut back on carbs for awhile, bread, potatoes that kind of thing and gargle at least twice a day with Scope. Brush your tongue every time you brush your teeth and this will get rid of it in no time.
It could mean you have a cold, that or you smoke too much. I would ask the doctor. People who do tobbaco get tongues big as a cotton flower. You might have cancer.
I have gargled with peroxide my whole life and it has kept my teeth really white. It also doesn't burn. I love it.
I'm a fit and healthy 21 year old and have the same problem with the thin white layer. Doesn't smell but can't remove it, it appears worse at the back of my tongue never towards the front I thought it was natural? Lol
search on google "orabrush". i used to have the same thing, but then i got the orabrush, and the white stuff went away. it works like a charm!
Brush your tongue. You can buy a tongue brush where you get toothbrushes! See your dentist and your doctor!
Or it may be that you are low on vitamin B12. I had that same problem. B12 fixed it right up.
The 1st post is correct. Try the things suggested there. If that doesn't work then see a doctor. You may have a bacterial infection.
Brush your toungue. The white stuff causes bad breath. So, my advice, brush your toungue really well.
if you see cuts going across the width of your tongue you eat to much meat and not enough vegetables and the white crap is bacteria and old food and if your breath smells really really bad that means your eating way to much meat and your stomach cant digest it all and its rotting in your stomach causing the smell of your half digested rotten food in your stomach to let out bad odors. so eat better brush your teeth and tongue floss rinse swish and eat alot more vegetables.
While I agree we could probably all do with more vegetables, I have to disagree with you on a few things. Food does not "rot" in your stomach (or your intestines contrary to what people trying to sell you an enema will say). The problem stated was a thin, white layer no matter what the complainant did. There was no mention of cuts, and this kind of agenda pushing irks me at best, because it shows no real empathy for the sufferer, just an opportunistic way of bringing it up - yet again. Let me guess, you're a vegetarian...
From the internet research it appears to be fairly normal in the sense that many people suffer from it, but it should be adressed. It is a symptom of a larger problem, not a problem unto itself. The best posts her to me were the ones suggesting it is diet-related (yes, even the one above :), but especially candida (thrush is yeast-based).
I would try the suggestions offered, avoid simple carbohydrates, white sugar, and a tongue brush (I use my toothbrush). Here is another tip - if I just use my toothbrush and water, it will not come off. You have to use a little dot of toothpaste. Also, be sure to brush your teeth before going to bed at night, especially if you've consumed sugar or simple carbs - that is the best food source for bacteria, and the anaerobic bacteria that grow in your mouth when you sleep (assuming you sleep with your mouth shut) will proliferate that much faster if you feed them!
If those things don't work, talk to your dentist.
P.S., Those harsh, alcohol-based rinses can worsen halitosis by drying out your mouth, and white tongue is also caused by dry mouth.
Finally, be thankful it is white tongue and not black hairy tongue! Yes, it's a real thing.
Good luck!
Most likely it's yeast. Do you bit at your checks too? If yes, then it's definitely yeast. Cut back on carbs and sugars, use a tongue scrapper and gargle with peroxide.
