Is it normal to have a strange almost real dream like this one

I was on a trip with some friends. We were playing a hockey tournament in Pheonix. Due to overbooking it was 4 to a room with just 2 queen size beds. One of the nights I dreamt and at the time I thought I was awake, that I just woken up in the middle of the night. The lights were on as well as the tv but when I went to move I couldn't I tried calling to my friends but I could speak. I was trying so hard to speak and move it felt like my body was shaking as if it was held down by something and I was struggling to break free. I remember feeling scared and wanting help. The last thing I remember was it felt like I was in the air looking down at my friends and myself sleeping. I woke up with the sheets drenched in sweat. It has always made me wonder just what happened that night.

Right, ckfillet. Except that I would add that the last part sounds like an out of body experience(OBE)' which is even more rare, and unexplained.

You were having a false awakening, accompanied by sleep paralysis. The panic of the sleep paralysis caused you to sweat because of the high amount of fear. At least it wasn't a night terror.
