Is it normal to have a nightmare, know your in it and can't wake up

Last night, I had on of my most bizarre dreams, besides the anthro dreams. I had a nightmare that I was on my bed and couldn't move. I was paralyzed and the craziest thing is I knew it was a dream and couldn't wake up. Nothing was bonding my arms and legs together, and I had no clothes on, which made me realize it was a dream. It started to scare me after an hour passed and I couldn't even talk or move my mouth, but after two hours of being fuckin scared, I finally woke up, screaming at the top of my lungs. Can someone please tell me this was normal.

I know I dream, and that I'm simply not remembering said dream, and no this isn't to sound masculine or mature, but I forget my dreams by the time I wake up. :/

If you know you are in the dream (they are called lucid dreams btw) try telling yourself to open your eyes. Keep telling yourself to do that until you do. That's what I do and it works every time. To help forget about nightmares, or at least take your mind off, look out the window. Assuming you don't live in Detroit or something close to it, just focus on the stars and the streets and realize everything is okay.

  • It's called sleep paralysis
I have it..pretty terrifying but harmless to your health or safety as far as I know
Look up ways to prevent it on google like a certain diet or sleep patterns
This helped me ! Good luck

i've had that before several times.
i've 'woken up' and my body felt numb. i was half-conscious of being in a dream. also, i feel as though i could leave my body. my head will be lying on the pillow, but i'll rise out of myself to look at the alarm clock. the time will almost always be messed up.

i used to get really nervous about it and it made it worse. now, when i feel something like that (happens when i fall asleep in the morning) i simply relax. i'll fall back into sleeping and it will go away or i'll wake up.

the anxiety surrounding this is actually what makes it worse.

Dreams last a few minutes. Not seconds. But anyway. Google 'sleep paralysis.'. Do you think that's what it might have been? I have a friend who recently described the same thing happening to her. Sounds scary!

Very normal and terrifying. There is a phenomenon during REM sleep when you are paralysed.

It may have seemed like an hour, but no dream lasts for more than three seconds. What's really weird is how you couldn't wake up. I always wake up instantly when I realize I'm dreaming.
