Is it normal to have a mother who drinks this much?

You could say that my mother is one of those a few glasses a wine per night kinda drinkers, except as I've aged she has been drinking more and more. When I was 14 that was her peak of drinking (at least I think i noticed it a lot more). Now it's almost every other weeknight that my younger brother tells me me she's getting sloppy/drunk slurring her words, picking pointless fights, screaming at everyone to go bed and shut up etc. It doesn't really help that she smokes a lot of cigarettes like a pack a day and spends more time in the garage smoking/drinking than anywhere else. I'm not trying to bad-mouth my mother, but I'm just wondering, is it normal/bad for a teenager to grow up in a scenario like that? With a mother who smokes and drinks a lot? And do you think It has an affect on the overall mental health of the children watching their mother waste her life awhile like this?

Your not bad mouthing her. Your being real.my mother has seven kids. The first five she lost because of her drinking. The other two are not as lucky.. They have to deal with it. It's not normal for any child to have to deal with this. As an adult I can't stand my mother, not because she's still drinks. But due to her lack of afford to stop. At the end of the day. You can't force a person to change. They will do so when they are ready.
Just help your brothers learn from her mistakes. And better themselves from it. That's all you can do.

Do what I did when I had a family as a teen, kick his ever loving ass, but there is sad after effect. I got disowned :), haha life's a bitch when you grow up with a horrible family, even worse if you weren't raised by them and couldn't adapt to the fact of listening to their illogical demands with no obligation behind them.
