Is it normal to have a mixed opinion about taylor swift?

Taylor Swift is pretty much like the "Smoking or Non-Smoking" section of music. People either love her or hate her. Personally, I have a mixed opinion of her. I don't hate her, but she's not one of my most favorite singers out there either.

What I dislike about her is that she has way too many songs about the same thing: being dumped and getting her heart broken. Some of them are, just to name a few:

"We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" (her worst song ever), "I Knew You Were Trouble", "White Horse", "Teardrops On My Guitar", "Should've Said No", "Picture To Burn", "You're Not Sorry", "Story of Us", "Forever and Always", "Highway Don't Care" (which is a Tim McGraw song, but I knew it was going to be a breakup song because Taylor sung it with him), "All Too Well", "I Almost Do", "Back To December", and "Red." Even a lot of her songs that did not chart are about lost love. Also, the music industry is still classifying her as country when she is clearly POP now.

However, I do like Taylor Swift because she is a good role model. She's not trashy and a potty-mouth like everybody else is these days, so I will give her that. Also she does have some songs that are actually very good (the few that are NOT about breakups). Some are: "Mean" (being bullied - don't like this one either, but at least it's not about a breakup), "Our Song", "Today Was A Fairytale", "Love Story", "Mine", "Sparks Fly", "Fearless", "Everything Has Changed" (being in love), "Tied Together with a Smile" (a friend with an eating disorder), "Stay Beautiful" (being positive), "The Best Day" (her mother), "Fifteen" and "Change" (life), "Never Grow Up" (growing up), "22" (hanging out with friends), and "Long Live" (her band).

That being said...is it normal to have a mixed opinion about Taylor Swift?

"Is it normal to have a mixed opinion about Taylor Swift? " hahahaha. It's normal to have mixed opinions about anything. it would be ABnormal to have steadfast, solid, one-way opinions about her.

Listen to "Tied Together With A Smile". That one has a good message and the lyrics are lovely.

I cannot fucking stand Little Miss Barlow-Swift and her slutshaming, boy-obsessed, BPD-esque ways.

That said, I made up my own version of Shake It Off which I'm quite proud of.
Interestingly, the video for that was directed by someone who also did a Nine Inch Nails video

When Taylor swift first became famous I was twelve and absolutely obsessed with her but as I got older and she kept making music none ove it was as good as her first album. I still have it on m ipod and listen to it to help me fall asleep at night. A lot of her music is about breaking up but they all have a different message about break ups. I have mixed feelings about her now too, she isn't the same small town country singer but more pop or whatever, no different than any other artist out today

I'm not really mixed - I don't mind her music at all. I am also impressed by the fact that - iirc - she writes her own songs.

a lot of popular musicians don't do that these days; they just take songs that the studio hands them.

Normal, because I believe there are quite a lot of people who don't listen to this kind of music, therefore they don't care about her. Which means they neither hate her nor lover her, just like you.

Yeah, I haven't listend to much of her music. I think I will now, at least the good songs you've mentioned.

She sounds like a pretty alright person, writing songs about things that inspire her. Love is a common source of inspiration for a lot of people in general. I guess the same can go for heartbreak, which not every break up should turn into a Grammy hah.

I think her music is catchy and sometimes annoying. I would not cringe upon hearing it, nor would I actively seek out listening to it. I think she is fairly attractive. I know nothing of her as a person and I don't care to.

It seems like she has more than a few songs not about break-ups, though. I know many musicians other who sing about that topic just as frequently.
