Is it normal to have a loud heartbeat after a drink?

So, sometimes, I drink a glass of alcohol, like wine or maybe a cooler. Usually, I'm fine, but my heartbeat gets louder in my ears and generally more noticable, and it gets a little bit harder to breathe. I even get a little itchy. Is this normal, like being drunk, or should I be worried?

Please stop drinking then, or speak to a doctor.

What you are describing sounds like heart palpitations followed by heightened blood pressure.

This can be caused by the dehydration that occurs as a result of drinking alcohol and if you were dehydrated before the drink (as in you have not consumed adequite water supply that day) then the effects will be stronger and more instantaneous.

The itching, all I can think of is possible skin sensitivity due to increased blood flow. I would suggest that you drink a few glasses of water before drinking alcohol and see how you fare. Alcohol often does strange things to ones system and if you're concerned, I'd see a doctor if hydration methods don't work.

You may have alcohol intolerance. This is also commonly called "Alcohol allergy."

I don't know the science of it but it's been happening to me off and on for most of my drinking career. The reason I don't know the science of it is because it's never been a problem. If it had, I'd have looked into it.
