Is it normal, to have a idea for a book stuck in your head?

Since summer of last year, I've had a idea for a sci-fi series stuck in my head. I have it all perfectly laid out in my mind, but it's impossible for me to write it down. The plot is so complex. The best I've been able to do is type down some character names, places and concepts on my iPod Touch, but it isn't enough. I want to be able to write the whole thing down!

There's also another book I have in my head which is meant to be a erotic/sci-fi book and I've encountered problems with it as well. It's not as thought out and complex as the aforementioned one and the only thing I've been able to do is come up with a title...

For some reason, I seem to have a hard time writing my ideas down. I don't considered my problem to be due to the dreaded writer's block, though. Is it normal?

Would a timeline help? Or a plot diagram? Or a character map? Something like this:

For anyone reading the book mentioned in the URL, don't click on it. :P

Heres my adives to you. I have a bunch of things i want to make into a book. My oppion to you, make it come from the heart. Use your imagination, i always right words down first then things just pop in my head. It might take a couple of mintues or even hours but if your patiant and wait awhile things will pop into your head and fill your brian with words that you just want to spill. When people tell you a story make sure its what you want and not what that other person wants. And even though someone doesnt like your book make sure you tell yourself that there is always someone who will love your book. And NEVER dought your self.

      Oh, you!

Is it that you find interstellar intercourse to be unsettling or are you worried about our "naive" species?

All I can say is write it the best way you can. I am a writer myself, and I've come across series ideas where I can't figure out how in hell I'd be able to write it down. I've got one write now (one of my favorites) that I've had for several months and still haven't completely figured where I want to begin. It too is a series. I have several stories for it in my head, all of the cahracters (hence: where the name Kedder came from) and everything, but I only have paragraphs and passages, so far. I haven't even started the first book.

It takes time, patience, and planning. You don't have to use the graphs and charts they taught you in school (those never worked for me personally). You'll Figure out you best way of organizing your story. get it figured out. I'm sure.

I understand how you feel completely. For the past two summers I've tried to write this book but it became increasingly difficult and ultimately I got stuck.

Anyways, I don't have any advice to offer but I can empathize.

Me too. I have different storylines in my head for months at a time before something else sparks and I move to another one.

At least you can get your thoughts out!

IDK, it's odd. I don't have this problem when writing video game or film plots. Yet, when it comes to novels problems arise. You should've seen the first "novel" I attempted to write. It was a complete mess. The Character bio which I guess I intended to be in the book was too long and the plot was silly and weak. The name was horrible too:/
