Is it normal to have a garbage in your bathroom?

I'll keep it short and simple. I was on the phone with my lady and we were discussing My little brother having stomach issues, when she asked how he was doing I mentioned he clogged the toilet, and she assumed it was due to over wiping with toilet paper. I told her that we do not flush Toilet paper down the toilet, we throw it in a bag in a garbage and empty/replace the bag every day, she then said it was strange. I explained that everyone i know does that, but she kept on insisting it was rather absurd, and not normal. It somehow got to bothering me and so i had to look it up...Is it normal to have a garbage in the bathroom to dispose of Toilet paper and waste?

  • This is normal on the greek islands since the sewage system there can't handle toilet paper.

A garbage in the bathroom is normal to dispose of q-tips, used tampons and used floss.. NOT used toilet paper. Toilet paper is made to dissolve quickly in water, what your doing is filling up the landmines rather than letting it biodegrade in your septic tank. Doing this is NOT normal and I have never met anyone that did such a thing!

  • It's normal. I have one and so does a lot of people. It seriously saves on plumbing. In fact, we don't ever need plumbers. I've never had a plumber in my life.

Unless you live in a third world country or have a septic tank that can't handle it, that's fucking nasty. They design toilet paper to be flushable so you don't have to smell shit all the time (forgetting even the germ factor).

I have heard of this before...but it IS NOT NOT NOT normal! And I swear, the two other people in my entire life that I met who also did this thought it was normal like you. You guys are like some weird breed of person who must only go to each other's houses or something.

This idea is only Ok if you have a septic tank since the paper cannot get flushed. Otherwise, it's a terrible idea. First of all, you're wasting garbage bags. (At least I HOPE to God you are using bags...) Secondly, it MUST smell awful. Even if you don't have a sensitive nose, someone who visits your house might. And that's nasty. Thirdly, why on earth would you not just drop the paper right in? It's much easier...trust me.

people don't think it's normal because they are not used to it. Many countries have a petite trashcan next to the toilet for the same purpose as you. As long as its one that you step on a peddle to uncover(for sanitary issues) it is perfectly normal (:

Eww. Why not just flush a few times? Like while still pooping.

    Yukkkk ...

Why not just give your younger brother a certain amount of toilet paper to work with... Teach him to learn to use less paper and if hes going to need more tell him to flush before doing so.

It really depends on where you live as in some countries, this is down because the sewage system isn't powerful enough to handle paper. When the people from these countries emigrate/immigrate elsewhere, it seems reasonable to me that they would take their customs (etc.) with them. So, yes, if this the case, its normal.

It may be Nora for some people to do this. But in all honesty it is gross! How would like to go throw a tissue away and see toilet paper with poo on it! Ew. but whatever floats your boat. if they lived with me off have to stop. Good luck!

Alot of these rednecks by me do this say it clogs their septic system. Well i disagree if you were to put toilet paper in a glass of water and poop in a separate glass of water the paper would be dissolved and the poop would still be there. So maybe they need to put the poop in the can not the paper.

Only if you're on a boat. And how did he manage to clog the toilet without using paper?

It's perfectly normal in most countries. Depends on where you live. In most parts of Europe and North America, you can flush toilet paper and many people may consider it abnormal to throw it in the trash. As you've seen here.

...yet I'm almost sure that the people who think it's abnormal do not flush used diapers or such. What's the difference, really? *shrug*

Where do you throw things that aren't supposed to go in the toilet then. Everything except urine and feces...needs to go in the garbage can

I know people who do that, but they're the only people I know of who do that. I never did it though. My family has a garbage in the bathrooms, but its not for used toilet paper, but for like what graphic_nature stated, q-tips, and such.

I don't think its anything that you should really be ashamed of though. I wouldn't treat someone any differently for disposing of their tiolet paper like that. However, like Wilkommen said, it probably doesn't smell nice.

Umm that must not smell nice. One of my old neighbors did that, but she was... erratic and very strange? The neighborhood knew her as "pigeon lady".

Wow, I never realized how many people thought this was abnormal. I have bathroom issues and I don't like clogging up the toilet with TP so I use a garbage bin in my bathroom. Lots of people have come over to our house and not a single one has commented on it.
