Is it normal to have a crush on a girl that reminds you of your sister

there's a girl at my adult/youth church. its mixed and I don't bother asking the age because its wrong.
I first met her at this camp and we've been seeing each other ever since.
any way I see allot of her at that church function.
she looks and acts a bit like my younger sister and I don't think its normal for me to have a crush on her.
is this normal

Normal, people usually fall for other people who look like close relatives or friends because they remind us of good times and comfortable situations.

    Norms, norms, norms... ;)

  • Unless she's a complete doppelganger for your sister, then I think it's great that you found someone you like who reminds you of someone you love.

Not weird at all. Cousin marriage in many cultures is considered ideal (like Arab cultures) and the those at the forefront of genetic relationships are starting to find out that "inbreeding" is produces children more likely to have weak genes if you have generally week genes but stronger genes if you have generally good genes. So basically out taboo about "inbreeding" is mostly based on our ignorance of how it actually works. What you're talking about, a girl that REMINDS you of your sister, is a product of this taboo being taken waaaay too far. Relax, your fine.

Actually, inbreeding produces the effects, even if the parents' genes are relatively strong. It's the lack of diversification in the genes, as well as some more complicated genetic causes, which cause the inbreeding effects.

However that's not what the topic is about. The topic at hand is whether it's ok to have a crush on someone who reminds you of your sister, and the answer I'd give is yes, so long as you're not using her as some sort of proxy for some seriously squicky unresolved feelings for your sister. Otherwise, it's perfectly normal.
