Is it normal to have a burning feeling on the back of your throat?

So yesterday I took a hit from a bong with some dank ass weed. But right after that, I got this really bad burning feeling on the back of my throat , it was pretty scary and felt like i did something totally wrong.

    The first time I ever smoked pot I was drunk and took a beautiful hit from a bong. I don't remember much after that other than the pain, but apparently I was whining about the pain for over an hour. I was later told it's probably because I had a virgin throat, the smoke was too hot, and/or the weed wasn't that good.
