Is it normal to hate your family's religious views

I am in a Christian family even though I am Athiest. My older brother is extremely religious and I just can't stand him. We are made to pray at dinner and it just kills me every time. I started to hate them a few months ago. I hate how they support a religion that can be so volatile to others. That spreads so much hate (I know seems kind of hypocritical) and arrogance. I see a favoritism towards my brother in nearly everything. I have associated this with his being more religious than me. The fact that I am always the one that is required to do chores and that. I'm not complaining I have chores just that he has none. The fact that everything I say will be used against me so its better not to say anything.

I'm Christian but I don't go around pushing my religion or religious views on anyone, as I see everyone is free to express their own views on religion any way they please as it's not my place to judge anyone on what they choose or decide to do.
As far as the favoritism, that usually goes in any family, whether they realize it or not.
Just wondering if you've expressed your views to your family, it's in the way you approach it that will determine how they'll respond to you. If they respond to you negative, it's not their place to judge you and they're not being very Christian doing so. They are your parents and will love you no matter what you decide they may just not know why you've decided to choose what you believe in.
Even if you are Atheist, it doesn't matter, just be respectful of your parents and how they choose to worship as long as you're living with them, even if you don't agree with their views or beliefs.

Don't hate them, accept them for who they are. Be the better person in spite of them. I know that's what I do when family members preach to me. If they want to spend their time praying for my eternal soul, let them. Trying to stop it just seems like a wasted effort. But I still give them love.

  • I understand what you mean ... I was baptized when I was younger but I slowly realized that this to me means nothing, I do not believe in god but my family really pushed it on me throughout my teenage years. I was also forced to pray during diner , read the bible after diner. I didn't attend church though because I always told me parents that I have work. Trust me I brought it up with my parents that I did not like church and god, I got shut down by them never brought it up again. Just remember after you do turn 18 well or even 17 its you're life its going to be up to you to make decisions and you don't have to make your decisions based on anybody's pretences . Do as you want! you only got one life to live might as well make it the way you want
