Is it normal to hate when people try to be motivational?

I can not stand it when people at work/school try to "motivate" me by preaching at me in non-sensical ways. They act like I am the most horribly self-indulgent person any time I give myself any kind of break, no matter how good of a reason I have (i.e. telling me to "stop feeling sorry for myself" if I take the elevator instead of the stairs on account of having a hurt knee, or getting all preachy any time I'm not acting super smiley/chatty). Anyone else have issues with this kind of behavior?

Speak up for yourself. If it's one or two particular people, tell them if you want to hear a preacher, you'll go to church.

Once they start preaching, stay cool, and detach yourself from the conversation. Give them an "aha" and a few "mhm"s. That should make them leave you alone.

Yussss, especially when they ask me about college, where i wanna go, what i wanna do and try to give me their insight and advice. I feel like its a conversation starter for adults.

I am rarely self-pitying, I just know when it's in my best interest to give myself a break. Here are some specific things people have tried to give me a kick in the butt about which I found annoying and ridiculous:

Changing out of some really wet socks, reading a book on my break instead of talking, physically not being able to reach something without a stool or claw, taking medicine.

Note that none of those really involve shameless self-pity.

Note that I said if, I never accused you of anything..

It can be really annoying if it happens all the time for no particular reason, but if you're constantly feeling sorry for yourself you deserve it a little and might need a kick in the butt.

Really? So only fat (or fat) people can get annoyed with others telling them how they should live? That's news to me.

If this is about the elevator vs. stairs thing, read the story again - I opted out of the stairs (which I usually do take) on account of a knee injury.
