Is it normal to hate when couples call each other "baby" or "honey"?

I'm easily annoyed by couples who overuse pet names. It's not intolerable, but after 20 years of hearing it be misused like "but baaaaaabe" or "honeyyyy, please"
when I hear it, I fantasize that they instantly fall through the floor

I'm no way alone here, right?

I don't think I ever call my girlfriend by her real name unless she's in trouble haha!

      Good to hear!

I need help expanding my brain-bubble w/ one-liners one could use to subtly express annoyance.

Like: (to couple, preferably of same sex first) Hey sweetie, (then to other ind.) pumpkin, never use the same fork for both dinner and dessert. That's just inviting a colony of pimples to infest your ass(random chatter*).

I'm guessing you don't have a significant other..... cause when you really really really like somebody, those pet names just come out without even thinking about it. Chin up, you'll feel that way someday. I used to be cynical of mushy couples until I found my baby ;)

I like you. You, I imagine, are the type of person who is very understanding, and accepting, of others & their behavior.

I'd feel comfortable sharing w/ you my recipes on vietnamese cuisine on the half-hr ride back home on the metro; even when rehearsing the exact pitch in the noise I would use when I moaned so that my wife felt adequate in bed; and EVEN as I sang every song I knew from the backstreet boys in german cause you, my friend, don't "mind others business."

So enjoy your world my selective-hearing (or rather extremely tolerant)friend. Go on and enjoy (or ignore) irritation!

well i might listen in... and i'd find it somewhat unusual - and a bit creepy - to hear someone moaning sexually in public...

but i also don't mind or get uppity when i see couples expressing affection to each other either.

I also hate it when someone says "babe" or "honey." I use to date this guy who called me babe like crazy. I was not fond of it, so I told him that I wouldn't respond if he addressed me with that word. It took awhile but eventually, he started calling me by name. I'm not bossy, I just hate those pet names!

Well. If the nicknames are used in moderation, I see nothing wrong with it. Otherwise, I'd probably be as annoyed as you are.

Yeah, I don't really like that either. I knew this one guy who I met at a party, now we're friends kinda. But I wasn't even dating him, and he wanted a relationship, but he always called me things like sweetie, babe, and for some reason I felt like it was awkward. I don't know if it was because I wasn't interested in him in that kind of way, but later I realized that when I heard my brother in law call my sister babe, how uncomfortable I felt.

I guess I just think it sounds weird. I don't know. I feel like couples should just call each other by their regular names. And actually, I was gonna put a post just like this one up. Haha! You read my mind.
