Is it normal to hate watching people pour tea?

Is it normal to hate watching people pour tea into teacups with saucers, and to hate the sound of the tea being poured, and watching people be polite and careful about it? Especially when they are sitting around a table and being 'sweet'. is it normal i want to go nuts, aand have to contain myself,as i hate that it.s so normal?

I feel like i am going to internally combust sometimes, and hate them at the moment of pouring and look at them daggers ( hopefuly they don;t notice) then as soon as they have stopped, I'm ok - but then there is the issue of 'mug hugging' if it's coffee. I hate the way some types of people wrap there hands all comfortably around warm mugs of coffe and act all cosy and safe. It;s not normal is it?( not sure I mean me or them...)

Yes, Emilydoll. it is indeed the delicacy that drives me nuts. I just want to get really rock'n'roll and swear.. LOUDLY!!

Also, I hate the way people hold there coffee cups oh so delicately and take these little bitty sips at a time. Of course they probably do it because it's hot, but when I look at them do it it looks like they are trying to look cute. One of these days I'm going to splash it in their face and see how cute they look then. (not really, lol)

LOL!! Yes, I know what you mena.. that sipping crap drives me round the twist. I went to a hotel on saturday, and the waiter was pouring tea from a tea cup into peoples little cute teacups with saucers. i wanted to smash the lot up and throw the eta all over the room and scream!! I HATED the sound of it pouring

  • If it's done in a SALOON with only MEN involved, then yeah.

So it;s not just me then. :o) That;s comforting to know. I have to walk out of the room sometimes when it;s happening for fear of putting on a VERY LOUD DEATH METAL ALBUM- SWEARING- and possibly THROWING TEA UP THE WALLS, OPENining LOADS OF BOTTLES OF BOOZE AND CLIMBING THE WALLS and gernerally being DRUNK AND DISORDERLEY.It; won;t happen.. ( she says!!) but maybe one day.....

I don't understand the "careful" action with tea. When I make tea, I make about three gallons at one time, sweeten it with about a cup of sugar or so, and stuff it in the fridge once the pot reaches room temperature. When I pour a glass I use a big soup ladle and then when the pot is half empty I just pick up the whole damn thing to pour a glass.

    Tea kettles are dumb. xD

Thats good and more sensible .In England ( which is where I am ) tea is taken very seriously ( are you from the USA? or where) and becomes a big ceremony of pouring and politeness. Afternoon tea, breakfast tea, cups of tea at work, single cup tea bags, tea cosys and all other frippery and ornamental bits and pieces that go with it - including paper doiles, saucers, buscuits and sitting around sipping for hours making small talk .:o)

You got it right, I'm from the USA, Kentucky to be specific. Around here, tea is something you enjoy ice cold around midday and supper, after a hard days work. (That is, if you aren't drinking beer or soda.) I hate hot tea... bleh.

If I saw a table cluttered up with all that nonsense you just listed, I'd scrape it all off into the floor with my forearm, (if it's a wooden table leave the wood exposed, if anything else drape a plain table cloth over it), plop a big pot of iced tea in the middle, and set mason jars all around. XD

I actually enjoy it And the making of coffee. 'Tis so relaxing, but I wouldn't enjoy it if a relative was doing the pouring... That would be quite odd...

Yes, I get the relative thing., That makes sense. In fact , when I think about it - it is only relatives that drive me mad when they make tea , coffee and hot drinks. ( athough there has been the odd exception) I am not entirely sure why. I hate them for that moment they are doing it.

You're fucking weird. But saying that, I cannot STAND the sound of a bottle of wine being opened and poured into a glass. Fucking hate that shit.

      Hi Squeallikeasacofpigs,

Yes I am weird. :o) I get what you are saying re: wine pouring - that one kind irritates me as well, and I have occasionally wanted to go NUTS watching wine being poured but not quite as much as tea pouring.

What if you're making instant cocoa? It's the same action.

Good point. That too would, does irritate me, what with that slow, careful stirring action, and careful pouring of hot water. Come to think of it, it.s like I have it against all hot drink making..except instant coffee for some reason. I hate that filter coffee machine noise, and small jugs of milk that have to be carefully poured. Definetley not normal!

You could also get a French press for coffee, more room to be sloppy.

Do you ever cook or bake? And how do you manage filling a bowl with food?

yes, A french press sounds better, but anything that requires careful action with hot drinks drives me insane!! I also hate those small filter jugs that you have to press down and wait for it to filter.

I do make tea at home, but chuck a teabag into a mug , boling water and some milk and usually spill a bit of the milk by mistake which makes me feel a bit better. It;s not normal...

Hi Howamintomyself. well, I do do bits of cooking sometimes, but also milk being poured on to cereal.( especaily out of small polite jugs) and I hate watching people eat cereal really slowly to and crunching it all carefully and stuff when they are half asleep in the mornings and staring into space. IS IT NORMAL? Probably not.. LOL
